About Amravati Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) Constituency

Amravati is the city in the district by the same name in Maharashtra. The city is the administrative headquarters of the district. As of 2011 India census, Amravati had a population of 788,327. The assembly constituency of Amravati belongs to Amravati parliamentary constituency. The seat is the INC bastion. Raosaheb Shekhawat of INC, son of the ex- President, Pratibha Patil won the 2009 assembly elections and is the present MLA. He defeated Dr. Deshmukh Sunil Panjabrao, an independent candidate. Shekhawat bagged 61331 votes as against Deshmukh's 55717 votes.
