About R.S. Pura Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) Constituency

Ranbir Singh Pura is a town in Jammu district of Jammu and Kashmir. The majority of the population here is involved in agriculture and dairy farming. As of 2001 India census, it had a population of 13,563. The assembly constituency of RS Pura belongs to Jammu parliamentary constituency. The constituency is reserved for the Scheduled Castes. The seat is the stronghold of INC. Prof Gharu Ram Bhagat of BJP won the 2008 elections and is the present MLA. He defeated Suman Lata Bhagat of INC, the last time winner. Gharu Ram Bhagat bagged 15902 votes as against Suman Lata Bhagat's 14272 votes.
