About Khanyar Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) Constituency

Khanyar is a town in Srinagar district of Jammu and Kashmir. The assembly constituency of Khanyar belongs to Srinagar parliamentary constituency. The constituency comprises of areas like Rainawari, Khanyar, Nowhatta, Khawaja Bazar and Nowpora. The seat is the stronghold of JKNC which won seven assembly elections since 1957. Ali Mohammad Sagar of JKNC won the 2008 assembly elections for the third consecutive time. He defeated Showkat Ahmad Hafiz of PDP with a very huge margin. Sagar bagged 6313 votes as against Hafiz's 806 votes.
