Chanani is a small town in Udhampur district of Jammu & Kashmir. The assembly constituency of Chanani falls under Udhampur parliamentary constituency. The constituency is reserved for the Scheduled Castes. Krishan Chander of INC won the 2008 assembly elections and is the present MLA. He defeated Dina Nath of BJP with a huge margin. Chander bagged 16276 votes as against Nath's 9838 votes.
