As 2018 elections in Tripura draw closer, cases of brutal murders are surfacing. According to recent reports, a BJP worker, Sunil Deb was killed a few days later he switched his political party from the currently ruling CPI(M) to BJP. The incident took place at Kanchanpur area, located in the northern part of Tripura. Allegedly, Deb was returning back from a meeting with BJP workers when he was attacked. His body was found dumped in a drain in the Kanchanpur market. Police officials have reported that there were several cut marks on the victim’s body. The body has been sent for post-mortem. A case would soon be lodged once the post-mortem reports are conducted, as confirmed by a local police official Harakumar Debbarma.

BJP Crying Foul on the Incident

BJP has pointed fingers towards the currently ruling Left front and even held it responsible for the 4 other murders of the party activities in the state itself in recent months.

BJP’s Tripura state in-charge, Sunil Deodhar, placed the blame on the CPI party basing his views on the fact that the party is threatened by the increasing support towards the saffron party as a number of its workers have come under the umbrella of BJP in recent years. He claimed that the BJP was emerging as a strong competitor to them. He further added that law and order situation in the state is worsening but the CM has not done anything to alleviate the situation.

Sunil Deb before entering into politics was in the army and served for Tripura State Rifles (TSR). However, he was fired from the position about five years ago, on account of negligence towards the duty. His only family was his estranged wife. He was working with BJP as a booth level worker.

The police have started the investigations in the case and are thoroughly looking into the matter.
