The party national vice president of BJP, Mukul Roy left the saffron party and joined the Trinamool Congress Party on Friday, the ruling party in West Bengal. Mukul Roy returns to the Trinamool fold in the presence of the Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee. Abhishek Banerjee, nephew of Mamata Banerjee felicitated Roy for joining TMC.
Mukul Roy’s son, Subhranshu Roy who was earlier associated with BJP also joined the Mamata Banerjee led-TMC party today.
Moments after the father-son duo was felicitated by Abhishek Banerjee, Roy said, “I have joined the TMC today. In the present circumstances, I can’t be in BJP and no leader would want to stay in Bhartiya Janata Party”.
Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee welcomed Mukul Roy and Subhranshu Roy in the Trinamool Congress Party headquarters in Kolkata. Banerjee said, “Mukul was never a traitor. Both the members will be playing a key role in our party. The party doors shall remain closed for all those who criticized it and lured money”. CM Banerjee also said, “Mukul Roy was threatened by BJP and it has adversely affected his health.”
A few close associates of Mukul said, “He started feeling suffocated in the party, especially after BJPs defeat in the West Bengal elections”.
Mukul Roy also served as a Minister of shipping and a Minister of Railways. He co-founded the Trinamool National Congress along with Mamata Banerjee in the year 1998. Mukul Roy joined the BJP in November 2017 and he won the West Bengal Assembly Elections 2021 after defeating a TMC politician and actor Koushani Mukherjee.
