Former Congress leader, Jitin Prasad joins Bhartiya Janata Party today in the presence of Piyush Goyal, party leader and the union minister of BJP.

Jitin Prasada joined the BJP party today at the party headquarters, ahead of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. Prasada used to be a close aide of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and this switchover is witnessed as a huge setback for the Congress party.

A young, brahmin Congress leader Jitin Prasada joined politics at the age of 27 years. For the majority of the time, he spent his life working for Uttar Pradesh. He commenced his political career as a general secretary of the India Youth Congress.

Prasada said, “I will now be working as a dedicated BJP leader. I want to thank all those people in the Congress party who are my well-wishers. The party with which I was previously associated was not considering people’s interests. What is the relevance of staying in a party who cannot protect the rights of their own or the ones who work for them”. He further added, “I have taken this huge decision after putting in a lot of thought and deliberation”.

Jitin Prasada was also a part of the G-23 group in the Congress party. Recently, the G-23 group came to light when many of its leaders demanded a reshuffle in organizational structuring. Prasada said, “BJP is the truly national party of India with a strong organizational structure, rest parties are regional and personality-driven”.

Amit Malviya, a BJP spokesperson tweeted, “Jitin Prasada is one of the many young leaders moving out of the Congress, who see no future either for the party or themselves. It began with the exit of Himanta Sarma, Jyotiraditya Scindia, with many more in the waiting. The Gandhis must reflect why their loyalists are exiting.”
