On 5th December 2019, By-polls were held for 15 seats of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. While the results will be declared on 9th December, Karnataka Exit Polls have suggested a win for the BJP. The BS Yediyurappa government needs to win at least 6 seats to have a majority.
According to the BTV Karnataka by-election exit poll, BJP will win 9 seats, INC-3, JDS-2, and one independent candidate winner. Another exit poll conducted by C-Voter predicted a win of 12 seats for the BJP while INC winning only 3 seats. C-Voter exit poll predicted no seat for JD(S).
Similarly, Public TV exit poll forecasts a favorable result for BJP, giving 8-10 seats. While the INC and JD(S) predicted to win 3-5 and 1-2 seats respectively. Even Power TV’s Karnataka by-election Exit Poll showed that BJP is expected to win 8-12 seats, 3-6 seats for INC and 0-2 seats for JD(S) with zero to one independent winner. Public TV and Power TV exit polls anticipate an independent candidate winner. If the poll of all these polls is considered, it gives 10 seats for BJP, four for congress, and one for the JDS.
By-polls recorded about 65% voter turnout, the highest 79.8% in Chikkaballapura constituency and the lowest in K R Pura about 37 percent. The by-elections were necessitated when the supreme court upheld the disqualification of 17 MLAs by Karnataka speaker. The actual results of the by-election will be announced on Monday, 9th December 2019.
