As many as 165 candidates, including 126 Independents and 9 women were in the fray for the 15 assembly seats. The BJP and the opposition Congress had contesting in all the 15 assembly seats, while the JD-S has fielded candidates in 12 seats. With the by-polls results giving BJP a thumping majority, tables turned on Congress. With 13 defectors contesting, 11 won.
With the drubbing got to the defectors in the state’s of Tamil Nadu, Haryana. Congress excepted the same fate with them in Karnataka also. But that thought boomeranged. With 13 defectors in the fray, 11 won by thumping margin.
Internal infighting, Congress lacked unity in command.
Congress was overconfident, regaining seats, which are known to be their bastions But they lost in KR Puram which was considered there stronghold.BJP’s BA Basavaraja more smartly consolidated vokaliga and OBC votes and breached the bastion of Congress by defeating Congress candidate M Narayanaswamy.with the victory of Narayana Gowda, in the bypoll in KR Pet Assembly constituency. Table’s were turned.
With judging previous Congress-JD(S) government, where ex-CM Kumaraswamy used to cry in the peoples gathering about the infighting. Seeing all the above facts, people of Karnataka eyeing to give themself a stable government. Voted Congress out, gave JD(S) a duck.
Being a lingayat, CM yedurappa also consolidated Vokalinga vote. Congress lost there vokalinga base to BJP in this by-polls.
More determined Yeddyurappa making him more Hungary due to feeling of neglect by Central BJP. Yeddyurappa was more determined to prove a point to central BJP, made him well planned and smartly maneuvered the defectors.
These are some reasons for the pathetic performance of Congress in Karnataka By-Polls 2019.
