Maharashtra Assembly Election Results

3,237 candidates – 288 seats – the results for Maharashtra Assembly elections to be announced on 24th October 2019. Out of 3237 candidates, 235 are women candidates

BJP-Shiv Sena collation in Maharashtra is set to break the record by coming back to power in successive terms, according to Chintamani-5Dots Partners survey. Chintamani-5Dots have shown most accurate exit polls in the last few elections. This will be the first occasion when a non-Congress government has held power in the state.

Devendra Fadnavis, who is looking for his second term in the state is the first chief minister in the state to have completed the full five-year tenure in 50 years

Start candidates include Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis from Nagpur South-West, Ashok Chavan from Congress, who is contesting from Bhokar in Nanded district, and Prithviraj Chavan, from Karad South in Satara district. Aaditya Thackeray, the son of Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray, is also in the top list of candidates from Worli constituency in Mumbai

In 2014, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 122 seats, and its partner Shiv Sena won 63

BJP is fighting on 164 Assembly seats, while the Sena is contesting 124 seats. On the other hand, the Opposition Congress and NCP are fighting on 147 and 121 seats respectively.

After the BJP emerged as the single largest party in Maharashtra, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said-his party’s strike rate has been the best ever in the history of the state even though it won fewer seats compared to the Assembly polls in 2014. “I thank the people of Maharashtra for giving a clear mandate to the ‘mahayuti’ (grand alliance). No doubt the next government will be ours,” he said.

In a possible first, ‘None of The Above’ (NOTA) finished in second place in Maharashtra’s Latur seat, behind Congress’s Dhiraj Vilasrao Deshmukh, the younger son of former chief minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, winning the seat for the first time with a massive 75.10% of the total vote share. NOTA on Thursday polled 13.06% of the votes, effectively defeating the Shiv Sena (4.7%) and the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (4.9%).

She defeated her cousin Dhananjay Munde by a margin of 25,000 votes in the 2014 polls and is expected to lock horns with him against this time. A businesswoman in the sugar factory sector, Pankaja received the ‘Powerful Politician’ award in the year 2017.

  • Rohit Pawar, the grand nephew of NCP chief Sharad Pawar, leading over BJP minister Ram Shinde by 7,211 votes in Karjat-Jamkhed.
  • Congress candidate Amit Deshmukh leading by 7,823 votes over BJP’s Shailesh Lahoti in Latur city.
  • His brother and Congress nominee Dhiraj Deshmukh leads by 15,383 votes over Baliram Done of the Vanchit Bahujan Agadhi in Latur-rural.
  • Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly Vijay Wadettiwar of the Congress leading by 1,392 votes in Brahmapuri over Shiv Sena’s Sandeep Gadamwar.
  • Congress MLA Praniti Shinde trailing behind AIMIM candidate Haji Shabdi and Independent nominee Mahesh Kothe in Solapur-city central seat.
  • State Congress president Balasaheb Thorat leading by 5,485 votes over Shiv Sena rival Sahebrao Navale in Sangamner.
  • NCP state president Jayant Patil leading by 7,609 votes over Independent nominee Nishikant Bhosale in Islampur.

As per initial results, BJP’s aspirations of crossing the halfway mark in the Maharashtra Assembly on its own did not appear to have been realised. Around noon, the Election Commission of India website showed the BJP leading in 102 seats, much lower than the 122 seats that it had won in the 2014 state elections.

  • State BJP chief and revenue minister Chandrakant Patil leading over MNS nominee Kishore Shinde by 10,086 votes in Kothrud.
  • BJP minister Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil leading over his Congress rival Suresh Thorat by 26,724 votes in Shirdi. NCP leader and former deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar leading over Gopichand Padalkar of the BJP by 49,851 votes in Baramati.
  • BJP minister Pankaja Munde trailing behind estranged cousin and Leader of Opposition in the state Legislative Council Dhananjay Munde by 20,981 votes in Parli.
  • Former chief minister and senior Congress leader Ashok Chavan leading over Shrinivas Gorthekar of the BJP by 16,900 votes in Bhokar.
  • Former chief minister Prithviraj Chavan of the Congress leading over BJP’s Atul Bhosale by 1,735 votes in Karad-South.
  • BJP candidate Harshvardhan Patil, who quit the Congress ahead of the polls, was trailing behind NCP MLA Dattatraya Bharne by 3,670 votes in Indapur.
