Thiruvananthapuram: Veena George takes oath as a Kerala Health Minister and replaces KK Shailaja. Amid the pandemic, where Kerala is witnessing a spike in active Covid-19 cases, Veena George is all set to become the new face of Kerala’s health government amid the pandemic.

Veena George replaced KK Shailaja, a role model who dedicatedly fought against the challenges of the Nipah Virus Outbreak in 2018, and proved to be an excellent leader to face outcomes of unprecedented times that currently prevail in the state.

KK Shailja was removed from the New Kerala cabinet, CM Vijayan quoted “It is the party’s decision that no member will be elected for consecutive two terms”. Despite her endless contribution to strengthening the Covid-19 management in the state, a lot of party members objected to the non-inclusion of KK Shailaja. Many CPM leaders, celebrities, and political observers opposed this decision as Shailja was putting her best put forward to serve society.

Former journalist, Veena George represents the Aranmula Constituency of the Kerala Assembly. She is a renowned face in the media industry, well known for her public speaking skills, leadership qualities, mature decision-making, and being a rebellious young achiever to reach the position.

Veena George took the Elections of 2016 by storm and barged as a surprise entrant. She defeated Sivadasan Nair, her closest rival by a margin of 7646 votes. Before she began her political journey, Veena Geroge played a role of an established media reporter. Veena George also featured on a popular Television program “Naam Munnott” where she interacted with a selective audience.

45-year old, Veena George is a mother of two and withholds a degree of Masters in Physics. Apart from being a political leader, Veena George also took up teaching for a short period of time. After facing backlash from Shailaja’s followers for not retaining her in the party, Veena George’s appointment as the new Cabinet minister has given rise to a lot of new expectations and challenges.
