The chief minister of our capital city, Mr. Arvind Kejriwal has always been one of the bluntest and most outspoken political leaders of our country. The former bureaucrat turned politician has criticized numerous political leaders and ministers on multiple occasions. Many political analysts have also called him the ‘Motor-mouth’ for this very reason. But for the past 2 years, we have been hearing very little from his side. Why has the motor-mouth of Indian politics gone silent?
History of the Motor-Mouth
If we wind our clocks back a few years to 2011 when the Jan Lokpal Movement led by Anna Hazare was in full swing, Kejriwal along with several other activists like Kiran Bedi and Kumar Vishwas played a very critical part in forming the India Against Corruption (IAC) group which later proved to be very fruitful for the 2011 India Anti-Corruption Movement. Kejriwal has been calling out political parties, its leaders and ruling governments ever since then. In November, 2012 Arvind Kejriwal together with Manish Sisodia formed the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). In 2013 Assembly elections of Delhi, AAP was the second largest party in Delhi, Kejriwal formed government but resigned after 49 days. Post that the elections happened again in 2015 in which AAP emerges victorious with grand majority. Arvind Kejriwal was named the Chief Minister of Delhi.
Reasons for Silence
Even though, Arvind Kejriwal is one of the most educated political leaders of our country, his journey in the political arena has been nothing less of a roller-coster ride with a history of allegations and subsequent defamation cases against him.
Since the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, in which the NDA formed government, Kejriwal has blamed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for everything that’s been going wrong in the country. In various speeches, interviews and rallies Kejriwal has attacked Modi for not being capable enough to run the country. Initially, a lot of people agreed to his logical reasoning but slowly he started making false and defamatory statements devoid of any fact-check or logic. People have started making fun of his allegations.
Kejriwal has also questioned other political parties on their honesty and judged them on forming allies with parties from different ideologies. But he himself became a virtual ally of Lalu Yadav and tried to join hands with Congress, whom he has criticized intensely for their corrupt government policies. Kejriwal has alleged many ruling parties and ministers for corruption. But a number of his own party members have come out and alleged him for his corrupt practices.
With the next Assembly elections of Delhi on the corner, we certainly need to hear more of Arvind Kejriwal.
