The South Indian state Kerala is now among the regions where the Covid-19 cases are surging daily. An analysis in the Institute of Mathematical Sciences in Chennai showed the R-value in the state is climbing rapidly. Kerala recorded an R-value around 1.11.R value shows the speed at which the coronavirus is spreading.

The rising cases in Kerala have again worried the state and the central government. Kerala was once celebrated globally for its Covid-19 model. The Covid-19 management by the state was much appreciated. But, now along with the northeastern state, Kerala has recorded more than 22000 Covid cases.

The sudden rise of Covid cases has fuelled worries. The Centre will send a team to keep a track of the worsening situation. The team will work with the health department of the state.

The Case Fatality Rate (CFR) in Kerala is low but the rising number of patients has instilled fear among the patients with possible post coronavirus complications.

The state reported 22,129 cases on Tuesday while India recorded 43,654 new cases. The cases dropped to 22,056 on Wednesday.

A senior official of the Kerala government said, “We did prevention well, we are much prone to infection and the serosurvey numbers show the susceptibility. It is important to see how the cases are being managed in the state we are preventing well, we are vaccinating. We are ensuring that the fatalities caused are minimum.

The official added that the government is trying to flatten the curve so that the pandemic is efficiently managed and doesn’t get overwhelmed. Seven districts of Kerala Kottayam, Malappuram, Wayanad, Ernakulam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, and Thrissur reported an upward trend in the coronavirus cases.

Kerala with an active caseload of more than 1 lakh is contributing 37.1% of the total active cases in India. Average daily cases being reported in Kerala are more than 17000, Press Information Bureau (PIB) reported.
