Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch Ujjwala Scheme 2.0 on Tuesday. The launch of the Ujjawala Scheme 2.0 will take place via video conferencing. PM Narendra Modi will launch the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana-PMUY scheme at Mahoba district in Uttar Pradesh.
The beneficiaries from the Mahoba district will receive an LPG cylinder connection. Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath and Union Petroleum minister Hardeep Singh Puri will attend the event today.
The Modi-led government launched the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) in 2016. Under this scheme, the central government provides cooking fuel such as LPG connection to rural households. The scheme was introduced by the Union petroleum ministry to help rural India.
The target under Ujjwala 1.0 was to avail LPG connection to 50 million women by March 2020. The women belonging to the Below Poverty Line (BPL) were taken into consideration. Later, women from other categories were brought under the ambit of the scheme. Women belonging to Scheduled caste and Scheduled tribe, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) and Antyoday Anna Yojana (AAY) beneficiaries were included.
The target of the scheme was later updated to 80 million LPG connections. The progress of the scheme was so significant that the target was achieved seven months ahead of the deadline. The numbers of LPG connections provided are 79,995,022 as of July 30 this year.
The revamped Ujjwala 2.0 scheme will provide an additional 10 million LPG connections to the beneficiaries. In the second phase, the beneficiaries will not have to pay anything for the first refill, and for the hotplate. The registration process will be easier. No heavy documentation will be required.
The schemes benefiting the rural household are of utmost importance. Modi-led government’s motto minimum government maximum governance is the key which can revolutionize the Socio-economic environment of India.
