A special cell of the Delhi Police department visited Bengaluru to question Twitter India’s head Mr. Manish Maheshwari over the alleged Congress Toolkit Case. The strife between Twitter and the center has been escalated in the light of current events, as the microblogging platform used the label “Manipulated media ” on posts of certain BJP leaders.

The Delhi Police officials investigated the tech giant’s MD for about 2 hours and also questioned Mr. Manish Maheshwari about the hierarchy of the organization. The officer said, “We approached Manish Maheshwari a few days after he visited Twitter India’s Delhi office. However, when we visited the Delhi office to issue a notice, the premises were locked. We sent another notice to Maheshwari to join the investigation process. Our Investigating Officer also mentioned in the notice that the team would visit his residence in Bengaluru for further questioning”.

Hence, a special cell was appointed to conduct the investigation including two inspectors and one senior official who paid a visit to Bengaluru as they did not receive an “appropriate response” earlier.

The Delhi Police senior official Chinmoy Biswal said, “We visited Twitter India’s Delhi and Gurgaon offices to hand over the notice to the right person in charge. Our team visited Maheshwari’s doorstep on May 31 to initiate a preliminary investigation”.

The Congress Toolkit Case was set on fire when Sambit Patra, a BJP spokesperson raised allegations on the Congress party for maligning BJP’s political image regarding the mishandling of the Covid-19 pandemic. Sambit Patra’s Tweet on the Congress Toolkit Case was tagged as “Manipulated media” on Twitter. Delhi Police officials contacted Manish Maheshwari (Twitter India’s Managing Director) and asked him to share all the relevant information related to the alleged Congress Toolkit Case.
