BJP leader Swapan Dasgupta has been renominated to the Rajya Sabha by the President for a seat that was vacated by him. Congress is calling it a “first”.
Swapan Dasgupta was first nominated to the Rajya Sabha on 25 April 2016 for Journalism. He quit his Rajya Sabha seat on 16 March 2021 to contest in the Bengal Assembly Polls as part of BJP and lost. On Tuesday, 1 June 2021 a notification from Home Ministry stated that Swapan Dasgupta is renominated to the Rajya Sabha by the President.
Former Journalist Swapan Dasgupta is famous for writing right-wing articles and columns and ennobling Hinduism.
Earlier, Mahesh Jethmalani was also nominated to the Rajya Sabha.
