The third phase of the Lok Sabha election 2019 is being held today. Polling is being held in 115 constituencies across 15 states and Union Territories. Voting is also being held in Tripura East constituency, which was earlier scheduled for April 18 but was rescheduled. Around 18.56 crore voters are eligible to vote in Phase 3 of the 2019 General Elections. Around 2.10 lakh polling booths/stations have been set up in the polling constituencies. As many as 1,612 candidates are in fray, of which 316 belong to national parties and 76 are from state parties.

All the seats in Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, and Daman and Diu are voting today. The other states that will head for polling in this phase are: Karnataka, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, West Bengal, Bihar, Assam and Jammu and Kashmir.

Gandhinagar

The parliamentary seat of Gandhinagar in Gujarat is a BJP bastion. It was help by BJP veteran leader Lal Krishna Advani. He has been replaced by the party chief Amit Shah who will be contesting from Gandhinagar this time. He is comtesting for Lok Sabha for the very first time. The Congress party has fielded C.J. Chavda against him.

Wayanad

Wayanad in Kerala was secured by Senior Congress leader M.I. Shanavas in 2014 general elections. It was vacated after the demise of Mr. Shanavas in 2018. Now Rahul Gandhi is contesting from here. CPI strongman P.P. Suneer is against him.

Madhepura

Two of the Yadav strongmen are contesting from Madhepura which is often referred to as ‘Yadav Land of Bihar.’ Former Janta Dal (United) chief Sharad Yadav who joined the Lalu front will be taking on Bahubali leader Pappu Yadav.

Rampur

Rampur will see an intense political battle in this election. The Samajwadi Party has fielded its confidant Azam Khan banking on Muslim votes that are considerable in number in this constituency. He has been winning the Rampur Assembly segment for the past nine times. BJP, on the other hand, has fielded Jaya Prada his former colleague from Samajwadi Party.

Thiruvananthapuram

Former Union Minister Shashi Tharoor has won this seat for the last two times. He is one of the prominent faces of Congress who comes from Kerala and is one of the outstanding parliamentarians. The saffron party has fielded former Governor of Mizoram Kummanam Rajasekharan against him. Mr. Rajasekharan resigned from the constitutional post in March to fight this election.

Puri

The Bhartiya Janta Party has fielded its national spokesperson Sambit Patra from Puri. This seat has been bagged by the Biju Janta Dal from the last two decades. Strongaman Pinaki Mishra will take on Patra from BJD’s ticket. The Congress has fielded Satya Prakash Nayak from the seat.

Mainpuri

Mainupuri have traditionally been stronghold of Samajwadi Party. SP patron Mulayam Singh Yadav will be contesting from this seat. At a rally recently held in Mainpuri, BSP supremo Mayawati made an emotional appeal to the people to vote for Mr. Yadav for probably one last time.

Firozabad

It is Yadav versus Yadav in Firozabad. After a family feud, Shivpal Yadav erected his own party and will be contesting from this seat. His nephew Akshay Yadav is contesting from Samajwadi Party ticket.

Pilibhit

Pilibhit is the bastion of Gandhi family. Last elections, Union Minister Maneka Gandhi bagged the seat. This time his son has exchanged his constituency from his mother. She will be contesting from Sultanpur. The mahagathbandhan has fielded Hemraj Verma from there.
