A long time Congress loyalist and Rahul Gandhi’s young Congress group member, Jyotiraditya has left the party. As of 11th March, Scindia has joined Bharatiya Janata Party in the presence of J.P. Nadda, BJP’s national president. Jyotiraditya Scindia’s exit raised many eyebrows in the politics of India, but an analysis of the past reveals that the Congress itself wrote the script to this show. In the words of Scindia, it’s a path that has drawn itself out. Let’s explore the reasons that provoked Scindia to take such a bold and massive step.
Scindia Was Sidelined for the Post of Chief Minister
Jyotiraditya Scindia’s disappointment experienced a jolt in 2018 itself. It was ahead of the Madhya Pradesh assembly election that Scindia was lobbying for the MP Congress committee president. It is well known that Kamal Nath and Digvijaya Singh are rivals of Jyotiraditya Scindia. The Congress party shocked him by making Kamal Nath the president of the Pradesh Congress Committee. However, Rahul Gandi subdued his disappointment after promising him the CM post if the party wins.
Later, the choice of Kamal Nath for chief minister made the matter worse. In spite of this, Jyotiraditya Scindia continued with the party. The cause was that Sonia Gandhi was reluctant to make young Scindia the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh. Fearing that he might emerge as a contender for Rahul Gandhi.
A Post of Punishment- General Secretary for Western UP
After the Congress high command betrayed him in Madhya Pradesh. Congress appointed Jyotiriditya Scindia the general secretary in charge of the All India Congress Committee Western Uttar Pradesh. This was a rather public humiliation for him since the party did not have any base there. Scindia resigned after the defeat of Congress in the General Elections of 2019.
Dismissed Claims for State Chief and Rajya Sabha Nomination
Going further through the chain of events, Congress did not give importance to Scindia’s demands. After the dismissal for CM post, Scindia was looking for the post of State Congress chief. Even his rival, Digvijaya Singh, sought to persuade Kamal Nath. In spite of that, Kamal Nath didn’t pay any significance any blocked Scindia’s way to State Congress Chief.
What is considered as the immediate trigger is the refusal of Scindia’s Rajya Sabha nomination from Congress. Scindia tried to meet Sonia Gandhi over the Rajya Sabha nomination row. Moreover, Mrs. Gandhi didn’t give him the appointment and this cleared the path for him to join the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Jyotiraditya Scindia may get to be in Modi Cabinet. He will enter Rajya Sabha as a BJP leader. Scindia had given many public hints in the past, however, the Congress party seems to pay no heed. Meanwhile, it really was a meaningful ‘Holi’ for the Bharatiya Janata Party.
