Badarpur is one of the 70 Assembly Constituencies of Delhi. It is located in the North East Delhi district and is also a part of South Delhi Lok Sabha constituency. As per the schedule of Delhi Assembly Election 2020, Badarpur will also go polling on 8 February 2020. Badarpur came into existence as a constituency in the year 2008. There are about 2,60,887 eligible voters in this Vidhan Sabha seat. During Delhi Assembly Election 2015, Aam Aadmi Party contestant Narayan Sharma had won this seat.
Delhi Election 2020 will be the 7th Election in this constituency. Year-wise winners for this Assembly seat are as follows.
1993- Ramvir Singh Bidhuri from Janata Dal; 1998- Ram Singh Netaji as an Independent; 2003- Ramvir Singh Bidhuri from NCP; 2008- Ram Singh Bidhuri from BSP; 2013- Ramvir Singh Bidhuri from BJP; and 2015- Narayan Sharma from Aam Aadmi Party.
In the Delhi Election 2015, Voter turnout in Badarpur was 65%. Narayan Sharma won with a vote percentage of 55.31% whereas the runner up Ramvir Singh of BJP gained 27.38% votes. The winning margin between the two was 27.93 percent i.e. 47,583 votes. Ram Singh Netaji and Nar Singh had contested the 2015 election on Congress and BSP ticket respectively.
Ram Singh Netaji from Aam Aadmi Party is contesting in Badarpur for Delhi Election 2020. Interestingly, he has switched sides for a number of times in his political career. In 1998, he was an independent candidate. During 2008 and 2015 Ram Singh contested from BSP and INC ticket respectively. Now ahead of Delhi Election 2020, he has joined AAP and is again fielded from Badarpur. Also, the previous runner up Ramvir Singh Bidhuri is competing by BJP. INC candidate Pramod Kumar Yadav is in the election battle for Badarpur constituency for the Delhi Election 2020. Delhi Assembly Election Result 2020 result will be announced on 11 February 2020.
