About Pattan Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) Constituency

Pattan is a small town in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. The town is regarded as one of the historical capitals of the state. As of 2001 India census, it had a population of 11,409. The assembly constituency of Pattan is a part of Baramulla parliamentary constituency. Moulvi Iftikhar Hussain Ansari of PDP won the 2008 assembly elections and is the present MLA from the constituency. Earlier also he won thrice from the constituency in 1983 (Congress), 1996 (Congress) and 2002 (NC). In the 2008 assembly elections, he defeated Abdul Rashid Shaheen of JKNC with a huge margin. Ansari bagged 20703 votes as against Shaheen's 9432 votes.
