About Pahalgam Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) Constituency

Pahalgam is the famous tourist destination in Anantnag district of Jammu & Kashmir. As of 2001 India census, it had a population of 5922. The assembly constituency of Pahalgam is a part of Anantnag parliamentary constituency.The seat has been occupied by PDP since 2002. In the bypolls of 2002, it was for the first time in last 15 years of militancy that CM Mufti Mohammad Sayeed contested the assembly elections. He won the elctions on the PDP ticket. Rafi Ahmad Mir of PDP won the 2008 assembly elections and is the present MLA. He defeated Altaf Ahmad Wani of JKNC. Mir received 24316 votes as against Wani's 13394 votes.
