About Leh Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) Constituency

Leh, a small town in Leh district is the capital city of Ladakh. The place is considered to be the herat of the district. It is a popular tourist destination. The famous Leh Palace which was built by King Sengge Namgyal is located here. As of 2001 India census, it had a population of 27,513. The assembly constituency of Leh is a part of Ladakh parliamentary constituency. The constituency is the INC bastion. Nawang Rigzin of INC won the 2008 assembly elections. He defeated his rival Thupstan Chhewang, an independent candidate. Rigzin bagged 19008 votes as against Chhewang's 17485 votes.
