About Kupwara Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) Constituency

Kupwara is a town in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir. The majority of the town is inhabited by Muslims with a small community of Sikhs. As of 2001 India census, the town had a population of 14,711 with a a literacy rate of 55.50%. The assembly constituency of Kupwara is a part of Baramulla parliamentary constituency. It had 80,536 registered voters in 2002. Mir Saifullah is the MLA from the constituency since 1996. He won the 2008 assembly elections by defeating Fayaz Ahmad Mir of JKPDP.
