Handwara is a town that falls under Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir. The place is well known for its talent in cricket. The assembly constituency of Handwara belongs to Baramulla parliamentary constituency. Sofi Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din won the assembly elections in 2002 securing 15,389 votes. He defeated NC candidate Choudhary Mohammad Ramzan. However, Ramzan won the 2008 assembly elections and is the present MLA. He bagged 27907 and defeated Sofi Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din who received 16317 votes.
