Gurez is a valley situated in the high Himalayas. The snow capped mountains surround the valley. The place is devoid of central electricity. The assembly constituency of Gurez belongs to Baramulla Lok Sabha constituency. Nazir Ahmad Khan of JKN won the 2008 assembly elections for the second consecutive time. He defeated Faqir Mohd. Khan of INC. Nazir Ahmad Khan bagged 5817 as against INC candidate's 5085 votes.
