About Bandipora Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) Constituency

Bandipora is a town in the district by the same name. It is also the headquarters of the Bandipora district. The town is located on the banks of Wular Lake. Bandipora is famous for three A's, namely A'lim (knowledge), Adab (good habits or literature) and Aab (water). The assembly constituency of Bandipora is a part of Baramulla Lok Sabha constituency. The seat was occupied by JKN since 1977 until it lost the seat in 2002. Nizamuddin Bhat of PDP won the 2008 assembly elections and is the present MLA. He defeated Usman Abdul Majid, an independent candidate. Bhat bagged 13051 votes as against Majid's 12231 votes.
