General elections 2019 are now on our heads, all parties are engaged in exploring their possibilities. In this line, congress is also in full swing. The Congress does not want to leave any stone unturned so it has decided to brought their veterans in political war ground in Lok Sabha elections 2019. Congress president Rahul Gandhi Thursday appointed former chief minister Sheila Dikshit as the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee chief, days after Ajay Maken resigned from the post citing ill health, in a bid to strengthen the party ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
As soon as Sheila Dikshit took her position, she looked in the full action mode. She told about the alliance with Aam Aadmi Party that nothing has been decided yet. “Politics is now full of challenges, we will make strategies accordingly” said Sheila Dikshit. Sheila Dikshit is one of the prominent leaders of Delhi Congress and has led Delhi Congress several times.
“Both BJP and Aam Aadmi Party are a challenge, we will face challenges together. Nothing has been decided regarding alliance with Aam Aadmi Party. Sheila Dikshit’s coronation could show a glimpse of political change in Delhi”, said Delhi Congress Committee president Sheila Dikshit.
Ajay Makan had left the post
Ajay Makan was appointed as Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president after party’s defeat in assembly elections 2015. However, within even four years in party, internal differences began with Ajay Makan. Also, Makan’s health related problems has started, so on January 4 Ajay Makan has resigned from the post of president of Delhi Congress unit, citing health problems. After that, the search for the new president of Congress started, this congressional conclusion has come to an end on Sheila Dikshit.
Why Makan resigned?
One reason for Makan’s resignation has come to know that Congress and Aam Aadmi Party are talking about an alliance and Ajay Makan was opposed to it. Makan was the most vocal against the alliance. He did not want that the Congress does alliance with Aam Aadmi party. He wanted that Congress contest elections alone. When his desire was not fulfilled, he decided to resign from party.
Maken congratulated Dikshit, saying under her leadership, the Congress party would play the role of a powerful opposition against the Arvind Kejriwal government in Delhi and the Centre-led by Narendra Modi.
“Congratulations and well wishes to Sheila Dikshit on being appointed as president of Delhi Congress. I had the opportunity to work and learn under her as a parliamentary secretary and as a cabinet minister. I believe under her leadership we will play the role of a powerful opposition against Modi+Kejriwal governments,” he tweeted. Dikshit has been three-time chief minister of Delhi.
