Mayawati, leader of the Bahujan Samaj Party, which keeps herself and the party away from the social media, has finally changed her mind. Mayawati has been active on social media and has also made the first tweet from her official Twitter account. The BSP supremo has an official Twitter account under the username @SushriMayawati.
Political parties have been using social media to communicate their message to the public. For the past few years, the importance of social media and its role in elections has increased. Almost all political parties have a presence in the social media. There is an IT cell to handle the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress‘s social media accounts. Mayawati has now identified the power of social media and has started with Twitter. BSP has an official page on Facebook but Mayawati herself is not connected to any social media. Mayawati is now beginning to feel that keeping her distance from the social media is not good for her party and her vote bank. Earlier Mayawati had expressed on many occasions that she did not need social media, but she could not ignore the effect of Twitter and Facebook during the expansion of her vote bank and elections.
Mayawati had started this account on Twitter in October 2018. However, there was no tweet on it till a few days ago. So until that account did not have any meaning. Even the BSP supporters were confused as there was no activity on the account until her recent tweet. She made the first tweet on January 22 removing this confusion.
“Hello brothers and sisters, the testimony of all of us steps in the Twitter world. This is my first tweet. @sushrimayawati is my official account. Will be in touch with you through this future. Thank you!”, read the first tweet by Mayawati on her account.
Mayawati’s Twitter account has so far 12 tweets and the number of followers has reached 11 thousand.
