  • BJP Will Face Bihar Fate in Assam: Rahul

    Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi hit out at the BJP saying that the party would replace Assam's history and culture with RSS ideology if it wins the state assembly elections. Addressing a rally at Moran in eastern Assam’s Dibrugarh district, Gandhi also slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for failing to bring back black money from abroad. He added that the people of Assam would emulate Bihar and show BJP the door in the coming Assembly polls. Assembly elections in the state will be held in two phases on 4 and 11 April to elect representatives of its126 constituencies.

  • West Bengal assembly elections: Zee 24 Ghanta opinion poll predicts victory for TMC

    The opinion poll, which was carried out by GFK Mode for the news channel Zee 24 Ghanta, has found that the ruling Trinamool Congress will get 200 seats. The Congress-Left alliance is likely to get only 90 seats in the 294-seat assembly. BJP is likely to get only one seat. The opinion poll reveals that the Narada News sting operation may not be enough to stop TMC from clinching victory.

  • Kerala assembly polls: Vijayan and VS in the LDF candidates list

    The Left Democratic Front (LDF), which is in opposition in Kerala, announced candidates for 124 of 140 seats in Kerala assembly. The list, which includes 43 sitting MLAs, 16 women and eight independents, also has prominent names such as politburo member Pinarayi Vijayan and Leader of the Opposition V. S. Achuthanandan. While Achuthanandan will expect re-election from Malampuzha constituency, Vijayan will try to win from Dharmadam constituency.

    The customised van, which will be used by the DMK chief Karunanidhi for campaigning, arrived at party headquarters on Wednesday. The van is complete with public address system, flash lights and facility for Karunanidhi to move in a wheelchair. This van also has amenities for taking rest in the vehicle. The 92-year-old Karunanidhi will kick-start his election campaign after seat-sharing agreement is completed with allies.

  • Six percent of Assam Assembly elections candidates have criminal background

    According to an analysis by think tank Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), about six per cent of the candidates contesting in the first phase of the Assam assembly elections have a criminal record Out of the 539 candidates in fray, 30 candidates have declared criminal cases against them in their affidavits. Out of these 30, 25 candidates have serious criminal cases, including murder, attempt to murder, crimes against women and kidnapping.
