    Sounding the poll bugle for Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections in early 2017, BJP president Amit Shah said that the Samajwadi Party is the main rival in the state. He said that "maladministration" of the Samajwadi Party government will be the main focus in the assembly elections. Shah said that he was confident that the BJP would emerge victorious in the 2017 polls. On the party's chief ministerial candidate, the BJP chief said that it has not been decided yet.

  • Grand Preparations in Kolkata for Mamata's Second Oath-Taking Ceremony
    As chief minister Mamata Banerjee gets ready to take oath of office for the second time on 27 May, she wants everyone to join in the celebrations. In a departure from the usual venue of Raj Bhavan, the oath-taking event is going to be held on Red Road which is one of the arterial roads in Kolkata. A portion of this road will remain closed for five days and be decorated in blue and white, Mamata's favourite colours. Some of the prominent faces going to be present on the occasion are Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah.

    Puducherry Pradesh Congress Committee president A Namassivayam has been summoned to New Delhi to decide who is going to be the party's leader in Puducherry legislature. The Congress emerged the single largest party in the Puducherry Assembly elections. Yet government formation in the union territory has got delayed as the party has not decided who will be its chief minister designate. Some of the top contenders in the race for the chief minister's post are former chief minister V. Vaithilingam, former Union minister of state V. Narayanasamy and Namassivayam himself.
