  • Coal ministry eyeing 15-20 blocks for next auction round
    The coal ministry is identifying 15-20 blocks for the next - third - round of auction, but cannot give a deadline for completing the process for all 204 blocks whose allotments were annulled by the Supreme Court, Coal and Power Minister Piyush Goyal said on Thursday. "Fifteen to 20 coal blocks are being identified (for auction) and we are hopeful that the mining from these blocks could start soon," Goyal told reporters here after launching the ministry's coal project monitoring portal. "I don't think that a timeline can be set for all 204 (blocks) because several of them are unexplored and several of them were alloted earlier based on irrational criteria. I would like to do the whole job very systematically," he added. Source: IANS

  • Bihar CM calls on PM
    In what is being described as a "courtesy call", Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi and discussed issues regarding his state. A Prime Minister's Office (PMO) official told IANS that it was just a "courtesy call" and the two leaders met for a while. This was the first time that the two leaders met each other after Modi became the prime minister. Modi's elevation in the BJP had prompted Nitish Kumar to pull his Janata Dal-United out of the NDA in 2013 after being part of the alliance for 17 years.   • Modi greets Bangladesh, India's 'enduring friend'
    Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday greeted the people of Bangladesh on their 44th Independence Day, saying that country was an "enduring and important friend for India". "Independence Day greetings to the people of Bangladesh, a nation that has always been an enduring and important friend for India," Modi said in a brief statement. Modi also tweeted his greetings in Bengali, the official language of Bangladesh. Bangladesh was declared an independent nation on this day in 1971 by its leaders as the Pakistani military launched a bloody crackdown against a nascent independence movement, leaving thousands dead. The civil war escalated into a major India-Pakistan war in December 1971 that saw Pakistan's eastern wing breaking away to become an independent country called Bangladesh. Source: IANS

  • ED attaches Rs.130 crore assets in Jagan case
    The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday attached properties worth Rs.130 crore in connection with the money laundering probe against YSR Congress president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy and businessman I. Syam Prasad Reddy. The ED issued orders attaching the properties of five group companies of Syam Prasad Reddy, managing director of Indu Projects Ltd. These includes 8,648 acres of land of Lepakshi Knowledge Hub in Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh, lands of Asara Realty Ventures in Maharashtra and of Cyberabad Hitech Integrated Township Development Corp Ltd in Telangana. According to ED, the money laundering case was booked against the two on the basis of a chargesheet filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Source: IANS

  • Jat leaders meet PM over reservations
    A delegation of Jat leaders met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday morning over quashing of the OBC quota for the community, official sources said. The meeting comes as Jat leaders are seeking a review of Supreme Court decision of March 17 quashing a notification of the UPA government extending reservations to the communityin nine states.
