  • JD-U legislator detained in kidnapping-cum-murder case
    Bihar JD-U legislator Anant Singh was on Wednesday detained for questioning after a case of kidnapping and murder was lodged against him, police said. Under increasing pressure from the opposition and allies Rashtriya Janata Dal and Congress, the Janata Dal-United government of Nitish Kumar directed the police to go ahead and take action against Anant Singh, known as "Chhote Sarkar" for his muscle and money power.   • Six new IIMs to come up across India
    The union cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Wednesday approved the proposal to set up six new Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) across the country. The new IIMs would come up at Vishakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), Bodh Gaya (Bihar), Sirmaur (Himachal Pradesh), Nagpur (Maharashtra), Sambalpur (Odisha) and Amritsar (Punjab).   • TDP MLA's bail hearing adjourned to Friday
    The Hyderabad High Court on Wednesday adjourned to Friday the hearing on bail petition of TDP legislator A. Revanth Reddy in a cash-for-vote case. The court adjourned the hearing after Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Telangana sought more time to file additional counter to the bail plea along with reports from Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL).   • Akhilesh orders special facilities for prisoners on 'Roza'
    Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has ordered special facilities for Muslim prisoners observing 'Roza' (fast) during the holy month of Ramadan, a state government spokesman said on Tuesday. Following his instructions, under humantarian and health grounds, all such prisoners would be provided material for 'Sehri' and 'Aftari' (pre- and post-fast meals).   • Goa to ban plastic items from government offices
    Plastic cups and other plastic cutlery will soon be banned from Goa government offices and functions conducted by the state government. A circular to the effect will be issued later this week, a senior government official said, adding that chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar had given his consent to the move at a meeting of the Goa State Environment Protection Council called on Monday at the Raj Bhavan.Goa Governor Mridula Sinha is the chairperson of the council.
