  • Most congress Defectors Lost to Congress
Congress might have lost the Gujarat polls, but the party has still something to smile about. Out of the 7 defectors of Congress, 5 have lost to the Congress contestants from Thasra, Jamnagar (Rural), Mansa, Viramgam and Balasinor seats. The 2 of the Congress rebels who registered a victory are Dharmendrasinh Jadeja and CK Raulji. They have emerged victorious from Jamnagar(North) and Godhra seats respectively.

While Mr. Jadeja defeated his opponent with meaty 40,000 votes, it was a photo-finish contest for Mr. Raulji, who won by a vote margin of just 258.

  • Rahul: Results are 'Zabardast Jhatka' for BJP
Congress President Rahul Gandhi who earlier called the Gujarat results 'zabardast' before the announcement, has turned to call the results a 'zabardast jhatka' for the saffron party. He told media that the result was good for his party, although they have lost. He added that despite they fell short of the vote count, the result was a massive jolt for BJP, nonetheless. He also implied that Gujarat can now see through the propaganda of Modi's model.

Senior BJP leader, Prakash Javadekar, however, countered the Gandhi scion's remarks by stating that it was a twin victory for BJP in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh and in reality it is a jolt for Congress.

  • BJP Win Through Western Media's Lens
While the local media is overwhelmed with headlines related to Gujarat results and BJP win, western media is not too far behind either. The New York Times implied the saffron party had a mighty win. The Times also called the party a formidable political force which won despite the aggressive campaigning by the opposition.

The saffron party which aimed high at 150 seat win in Gujarat polls, could manage only 99 seats out of 182 assembly seats. The CNBC called the win a 'rocky victory' and even linked the low seat count with voters' anger over issues like GST.

BBC commented on Rahul Gandhi, acknowledging him to have finally come out of the cocoon.
