  • BJP's Navjot Singh Sidhu Resigns From Rajya Sabha, May Join AAP

    Former cricketer and BJP leader Navjot Singh Sidhu quit as Rajya Sabha MP today. Sidhu's official statement said that 'with closure of every window leading to Punjab' his position as Rajya Sabha MP was a 'mere burden'.The move has fanned speculations that Sidhu is leaving BJP to join Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in preparation for the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections early next year. It is estimated that he is going to be the chief ministerial face of Aam Aadmi Party if he joins it. The Aam Aadmi Party is going full steam ahead for the Punjab Assembly polls which it is going to contest in for the first time in 2017.

  • Pema Khandu Sworn-in As Arunachal's Next CM

    36-year-old Pema Khandu, who had been elected as the leader of Congress party in the Arunachal Pradesh assembly, was sworn-in as the next Chief Minister of the state yesterday. He replaced Nabam Tuki, who resigned as the leader of Congress Legislature Party just hours before going for the trust vote. Pema Khandu is now the youngest chief minister of the country.

  • PM Modi Pitches For GST On Eve of Parliament's Monsoon Session

    Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a fresh bid for the passage of the key goods and services tax legislation ahead of the monsoon session of Parliament which begins today. He stressed that credit as to who got the bill passed should not affect the decision of opposition parties, specially the Congress, in giving its nod to the bill. Making a strong case for the passage of the crucial reform bill, Modi said that Opposition MPs should keep the “national interest” in mind. While the Congress finds itself increasingly isolated on the GST Bill, it has announced plans to attack the ruling NDA government in the monsoon session over the tense situation in Kashmir and the NDA's attempts at destabilising democratically-elected state governments in Uttarakhand and Arunachal Pradesh.

    BSP rebel Swami Prasad Maurya, who was formerly a general secretary of the party, has announced the constitution of the organisational outfit Loktantrik Bahujan Manch. He added that he had not decided to form a new political party and was open to joining another party. According to reports, Maurya, who had promised to 'finish' Mayawati's BSP, has said that he would begin touring the election-bound state of Uttar Pradesh from 31 July to mobilise support for his rally due to be held on 22 September at Ramabai Ambedkar Rally Ground in Lucknow. He is likely to make important decision regarding joining another political party or forming his own at the proposed rally after taking opinion from supporters.
