  • Sheila Dikshit Set to Become Congress' CM Candidate for UP Elections 2017

    Three-time former Delhi chief minister and senior Congress leader Sheila Dikshit has been chosen as the Congress party's chief ministerial candidate for the crucial Uttar Pradesh assembly elections in 2017. Sheila Dikshit had earlier said that she was the daughter-in-law of Uttar Pradesh and ready to serve the Congress party in any which way she could as a foot-soldier. It is understood that Dikshit's name had been suggested by Congress party's election strategist Prashant Kishor as she could help attract Brahmin votes in the election-bound state of Uttar Pradesh. Meanwhile, Sheila Dikshit has been summoned over her alleged role in connection with the Water tanker scam case by the Anti-Corruption Bureau.

  • Nabam Tuki Back As Arunachal CM; PM Modi & Co. Go Into Huddle

    After the Supreme Court's ruling yesterday that imposition of President’s rule in the frontier state of Arunachal Pradesh was illegal, Congress member and Arunachal chief minister Nabam Tuki resumed office today from Delhi. While Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi told the press that the central government had nothing to do with the case and that it was the governor's prerogative to honour the Supreme Court judgment, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met senior ministers to discuss and deliberate on the verdict and explore the way forward.

  • Two More Ministers Dropped From Modi Cabinet

    Completing his much-anticipated cabinet reshuffle since taking office in 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday dropped two more ministers from his council, upgraded one and changed the portfolio of a junior minister. Minority affairs minister Najma Heptulla has been removed and replaced by her deputy, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi who is now given independent charge of the ministry. Minister of State Babul Supriyo was shifted from urban development ministry to that of heavy industries and public enterprises. Supriyo will now work as Anant Geete's deputy and replace G.M. Siddeshwara, the other minister to get axed besides Najma Heptullah.

  • UP Elections 2017: State Congress Chief Raj Babbar Woos BSP

    Soon after taking over as president of Uttar Pradesh Congress, actor-politician Raj Babbar hinted at being keen on alliances in the election-bound state. Heaping praises on the leaders of Bahujan Samaj Party, Babbar said that he had always considered BSP  founder Kanshi Ram a saint and that he had immense regard for Mayawati.
