  • Karnataka: Survey Reveals Candidate is the Most Important Factor to Vote
    Ahead of the Karnataka Election, a survey has been conducted to better understand the voters' perception in Karnataka. About 86% of the participants have expressed that the candidate is the most important reason for them to vote. 67% find the candidate's party to be another important factor and about 42% believe that they vote on the basis of the chief ministerial candidate. The voter survey was carried out by a civil society organisation, DAKSH and Association for Democratic Reforms. The chief election commissioner of India, O.P. Rawat, released the survey findings in Bengaluru at the 14th annual national conference.

  • BJP Declares Candidate List for Rajya Sabha
    BJP is out with the list of candidates for the upcoming Biennial Elections to be conducted for the 58 seats of Rajya Sabha. The saffron party has named 18 candidates for the polls scheduled on March 23. The prominent names in the list are entrepreneur Rajeev Chandrasekhar, BJP general secretaries Anil Jain and Saroj Pandey, former Maharashtra chief minister Narayan Rane, and spokespersons Anil Baluni and G V L Narasimha Rao. Other parties such as Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Congress, Janta Dal (United) too have declared their candidate list.

  • OP Rawat Yet to Announce Poll Dates
    Om Prakash Rawat, the Chief Election Commissioner of India, has been mum on the poll dates of Karnataka. In a press statement, he said that the dates would be announced at an appropriate time. In his own words, “It is sacrosanct. The announcement will be made in front of the media at an appropriate time. So wait for it.”
    He was even reminded of his earlier press statement when he said that the dates would be revealed around April 15. He responded to it by saying, “If whatever is being spoken in an interview and is interpreted in a different way, one can’t really help.”

  • BJP Declared Karnataka Rajya Sabha Candidate
    BJP has declared the Rajya Sabha candidate from Karnataka. The new candidate, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, is reportedly an entrepreneur and businessman from Bengaluru. The All India India Congress Committee (AICC) on Sunday too approved his name along with two other candidates, namely, Dr. Syed Naseer Hussain and Dr. L. Hanumanthaiah. The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has taken a number of decisions ahead of the Lok Sabha elections to gain an upper hand in the House. Congress, on the other hand, has been attempting to send a minimum of 3 people to the Rajya Sabha.

  • BJP Fears TDP Spat Could Affect Telugu Voters
    Afraid of the spat between Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and BJP, the saffron party has been sending Telugu political leaders in Karnataka. The move is inspired by the fears of BJP that the spat could mobilize the Telugu voters away from the party in the poll-bound state. The TDP government, which is currently ruling Andhra Pradesh, has even warned of walking out of the BJP-NDA alliance as the centre did not give the special category status to AP. A BJP leader has reported that a series of meetings would take place at sites which have sizable Telugu population as a counter-measure.

  • Less than 50% Turnout for Lok Sabha Bypolls
    According to the Election Commission reports, about 40% of polling percentage is recorded in Gorakhpur Lok Sabha constituency while 29% is observed for Phulpur. The reports further stated that the voting began on quite a low note but gained momentum as the day advanced. The bypolls came about as Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath vacated the Phulpur and Gorakhpur Lok Sabha seats.
    Adityanath, after casting his vote in Gorakhpur, stated that the saffron party was getting support from the majority of people. He also slammed BSP and SP for being involved in negative politics.
