  • BJP all set to sweep Uttar Pradesh Election 2017
The trends of the assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh suggest that the Modi magic has remained intact since the BJP victory in 2012. The exit polls had suggested a BJP victory but most of them had been conservative in their estimates. Most of them predicted that BJP would emerge as the single largest party in the state but barring one exit poll, did not predict the kind of victory BJP is headed for right now. From the trends it is now clear that the BJP would win in the vicinity of 300 seats in Uttar Pradesh. The Samajwadi Party-Congress alliance is likely to get around 70 seats. The BSP has been relegated to almost a non-entity in the state with just 23 leads. These trends are likely to be translated into actual results. The credit for the BJP victory in UP goes to Prime Minister Narendra Modi who campaigned extensively in the state and held several rallies and roadshows. Earlier the political pundits had suggested that demonetization would hurt the prospects of BJP in the elections but clearly the Modi wave has managed to nullify the impact of demonetization on the voters. The political analysts are already speculating on who would be the next chief minister of the state. The final results are likely to be out in a few hours.
