  • Congress likely to Go on with Soft Hindutva Image
    The Congress is likely to continue to pull the same card as it did in the Gujarat Assembly elections last year. The soft Hindutva image adopted by the party did work for it as the results showed a substantial improvement in the number of votes garnered by them.
     
    Rahul Gandhi during the campaigning in the western state was seen visiting a string of temples and gave a clear indication that INC has moved over its old chestnut of appeasing just Muslims. The Gandhi scion is expected to campaign in the state after January 20 and is expected to cover Belgaum, Mysore, and Bellary, as reported by KC Venugopal, Congress' Karnataka general secretary-in-charge. He is likely to visit Sringeri Sharada Peetha, Chikkamagaluru as Meghalaya Election, Tripura Election and Nagaland Election are slated to be held early this year.

  • Karnataka Elections: Likely to be Held in Last Week of April and First Week of May
    A six-member team meeting of officials of Election Commission of India was held to discuss the poll preparation in Karnataka. Umesh Sinha, Senior Deputy Election Commissioner, along with his team, accessed the election arrangements of the states and has done a fair review of manpower availability, electoral rolls, number of polling booths, use of IT and revised the overall law and order situation of the state.
     
    The schedules for various fairs, examination and festivals have also been considered. One important exam for engineering entrance will be over on April 19 and officials have reported that the polls are likely to be held between April's last week and May's first week. The dates are likely to be declared after March's second week.

  • Modi Meets Top Party Leaders Ahead of Elections
    Prime Minister Narendra Modi is slated to meet the party's national president Amit Shah and general secretaries in the wake of discussing the present political scenario. All the party leaders have been invited to attend the meeting, scheduled for today, January 11.
     
    The core points to be discussed in the meeting are likely to include the strategy for Karnataka assembly elections. Currently, the saffron party is fiercely campaigning for the polls in the north-eastern states like Tripura and Meghalaya.
     
    Interestingly, the meeting is held just a few days before the BJP-led NDA government submits its Union Budget.

  • Meghalaya Reports Increase in Voter Count
    CEO Meghalaya, Frederick Kharkongor expressed happiness as the state has managed to enroll more than half of the population as voters. Meghalaya, which has a population of over 35 lakhs, will have 18,30,104 voters for the upcoming Meghalaya assembly election in the state. The female voter population is reported to be 9,23,848, which has slightly outnumbered the males which stand at 9,06,256. Kharkongor reported that no one from the third gender has enrolled.
     
    An increase in the total voter population has been registered. For the last Assembly elections held in 2013, there were 15,02,509 voters, making a total increase in the voter's number by 3,27,595.
     
    The number of polling stations will be 3082, again an increase of 597 over the last Assembly polls
