  • Rahul Gandhi Finalises Congress Candidates List for Punjab
    Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi held a series of meetings with senior party leaders and finalised the remaining 40 candidates for the Punjab assembly elections. According to a party source, the list is likely to be announced tomorrow. The Congress Central Election Committee meeting for Punjab was attended by party president Sonia Gandhi and Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh besides other leaders. Punjab goes to polls in single phase on February 4.

  • UP Elections 2017: BJP Ally RLSP to Go Solo
    BJP ally RLSP has declared that it is going to fight the Uttar Assembly elections on its own and finalised its candidates for over 75 seats. The Bihar-based RLSP, which is headed by Union Minister Upendra Kushwaha, convened in Delhi to finalise its candidates. The decision has come after BJP showed disinterest in roping in Rashtriya Lok Samta Party (RLSP) in its alliance for UP polls which includes small regional parties such as the Apna Dal.

    In what is being deemed as another blow to hopes of reconciliation within the Samajwadi Party, sources revealed that Akhilesh Yadav is not going to step down as the Samajwadi Party president, at least not till the election is over. Akhilesh, who is currently the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, has conveyed the decision to his father and Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav nine days after managing to seize official control of the party from his father.

  • Notification for Punjab, Goa Assembly Elections Today
    The Election Commission of India is going to issue notifications for Punjab and Goa Assembly elections today. This will pave the way for filing of nomination papers. The last date for filing nominations is 18 January, 2017. Scrutiny of the nomination papers will take place the following day. The last date for withdrawal of nominations is 21 January, 2017. Polling in both the states will be held in single phase on February 4, 2017. Punjab has 117 Assembly seats while Goa has 40.

  • UP Elections 2017: BJP Recommends Candidates List to Party High Command
    Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders held a brainstorming meeting with the core group in Uttar Pradesh yesterday to shortlist candidates for the upcoming Assembly elections in the state. The meeting authorised BJP state president Keshav Prasad Maurya to hand over the list of probable candidates recommended by the Election Committee to the central parliamentary board which will take a final call.
