  • Northeast Results Caused Alliance between SP and BSP
    According to the UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the SP and BSP have joined hands in the upcoming bypolls of Lok Sabha prompted by the impressive performance of the saffron party in the north eastern states. He also labelled their alliance as opportunistic. He slammed the government for being corrupt and the one which was protecting criminals. He also urged the people to vote for Upendra Shukla, a BJP candidate. The bypolls are scheduled on March 11 in UP's Phulpur and Gorakhpur constituencies.

  • Karnataka: Congress to Field Candidates for 3 Rajya Sabha Seats
    Congress in Karnataka is eying 3 of the 4 seats in Rajya Sabha, scheduled on March 23. Currently, BJP holds 2 seats, while other two are held by a Congress member and one Independent candidate. R Ramakrishna & Basavaraj Patil Sedam of BJP, K Rahman Khan of the Congress and Rajeev Chandrasekhar Independent candidate are the current seat holders. The names are yet to be finalised. In the 224 member Assembly, each candidate requires 44 votes and the decision of Congress to fight for 3 seats leaves no scope for Janata Dal (Secular) to elect their party's candidates.

  • Meghalaya Assembly Speaker Nominations Begin
    After the new government formation in Meghalaya, the nomination papers form various candidates have started pouring in for the position of the Assembly Speaker. Winnerson D. Sangma, the Congress legislator and Donkupar Roy, the former Chief Minister of the ruling Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government, have already submitted their nominations. Andrew Simons, the Meghalaya Assembly Commissioner and Secretary, has declared both the nominations to be valid. March 12 would mark the date for the polls to be held for the post. Following that, the current CM Conrad Sangma would state its decision on the newly elected Speaker.

  • Siddaramaiah Unveils New Karnataka Flag
    Amidst the growing temperature of campaigning in the poll-bound Karnataka, the ruling Congress government in the state has unveiled a state flag. The flag has been sent to approval by the Union Home Ministry. However, it has been approved by the cabinet already. If the flag gets approved, Karnataka would become the second state in the country after Jammu and Kashmir for having a flag of its own. Siddaramaiah expressed pride after unveiling the flag and stated that the decision to unveil it was a historic one.
     
    The new flag has red, yellow and white colors and the final design has been finalised after CM's meeting with literary personalities, senior officials, and pro-Kannada organizations.

  • Rajya Sabha Nominations Have Begun
    J P Nadda, the Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, has filed his nomination for the candidature of Rajya Sabha. He has filed the nomination papers as a BJP candidate from Himachal Pradesh. The Rajya Sabha would witness 59 vacancies in the month of April of which 12 would be from Congress and 17 would be from the saffron party (out of which 8 are union ministers). Arun Jaitley, the Finance Minister, is reported to contest from UP and Ravi Shankar Prasad, the Union Law Minister, would contest from Bihar.
