  • Modi: Tripura Lags Behind Country Due to Left's Misrule
    Prime Minister Narendra Modi has criticized the Left Front government while addressing a rally in Tripura's Sonamura. He stated that Tripura is lagging behind the whole country under the Left government's rule. Modi also termed their 25 years long rule as 'misrule'. Talking about development, he stated that Rs. 1,300 crore project - National Bamboo Mission, has been launched in order to utilize the bamboo resource in the northeastern state. He also gave the slogan 'Cholo Paltai', which translates to 'Go for Change'. The PM has urged the people to vote for the saffron party to bring the positive transformation in the state.

  • NPCC Declared Manifesto in Nagaland
    The NPCC has finally released its manifesto for the upcoming Nagaland polls. The manifesto contains a total of 16 pages. It states “This Election is also an occasion for Nagas to cherish the past and claim the future by electing a secular party to govern”. The manifesto declares 33% reservation for women in order to enhance their participation. The manifesto also promises a Special Economic Development Plan for the eastern Nagaland areas. The party has also pledged to take necessary steps to restrict corruption and electoral malpractices.

  • Nagaland Polls: Nominations Filed in Bulk on Last day
    Over 253 candidates have filed their nominations for the Nagaland Assembly election despite a number of Naga groups calling for the boycott of the elections. Among the prominent Naga groups were Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs), Naga outfit NSCN (IM) and a few Naga Civil Society groups. By February 6, only 22 candidates had filed their nominations and on the last date of the nominations, February 7, a total of 231 candidates filed their nominations. On February 6, the candidates filed their nominations for only 17 of the total 60 constituencies. TR Zeliang, the Nagaland Chief Minister, has filed his nomination for the 7 Peren constituency.

  • Nagaland Polls: CEO Declares Valid Number of Nominations
    Abhijit Sinha, the Nagaland's Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), declared that out of all the total 257 nominations filed, 227 have been considered valid. The nomination papers' scrutiny was carried out in 53 offices across the state under strict security. He also reported that a total of 29 candidates have been rejected and 1 nomination is adjourned until 10 February. In 2013, the number of nominations filed was 231 in number. Nagaland Election will be held on Feb 27 and results will be declared on March 3.

  • CPM Complains to EC About BJP's Objectionable Practices
    The CPM has held a meeting with the Election Commission in order to bring its attention to some of the saffron party's major corruption practices. Nilotpal Basu, the CPM Central Committee member, and Om Prakash Rawat, the Chief Election Commissioner, had a meeting where the former discussed some of the BJP's acts. Among the acts discussed were included a film 'Lal Sarkar' (that was filmed in the state as a part of the saffron party's campaign), a few social media ads, BJP's usage of Tripura Governor's photograph while promising to deliver the 7th Pay Commission and malfunctioning of EVMs. Basu also stated that the BJP's practices should be immediately stopped.

  • Chargesheet Filed Against Congress by BJP
    The BJP has filed a chargesheet against Congress in Meghalaya on the charge of its failure to fulfill the promises it mentioned in its manifesto 2013. The chargesheet, released by K. J. Alphons, Union Tourism Minister, points out all the failures of the government, in addition to, instances of corruption over the years, its party member's apparent involvement in police and teacher recruitment scam, a few land scams and more. The charge sheet also highlights the sex racket case of the Julius Dorphang, an independent legislator.

  • Meghalaya Polls: 3 Rejected Out of 377 Nominations
    A total of 377 candidates' nomination papers have been scrutinized by the EC (Election Commission). Among the nominations, the candidates were Independents and from political parties. The Commission has ruled 3 of them to be invalid while the rest have been approved. Frederick Roy Kharkongor, the Chief Electoral Officer, stated the names of the 3 candidates who were rejected - Milson Sangma of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Arelitha K Sangma and Serazul H. Kharkongor of the North East India Development Party (NEIDP). He added that the among the approved 374 candidates, there were 85 Independent candidates and 33 women.

  • Modi Takes a Dig at Manik in Tripura Rally
    PM Modi while addressing a rally in Sonamura, Tripura, told the masses that it was time to choose the “HIRA” (diamond) instead of the “Manik” (gemstone). He referred to the saffron party's promise of Highways, Internet, Roadways, and airways (HIRA). In his maiden rally in Tripura, the PM attacked the government using references from Astrology. He said that if an astrologer gives you a wrong Manik (gemstone), the 'achhe din' never come and that was what happened in the state of Tripura. He added that it was time to throw away the Manik and wear the HIRA. Tripura Election will be held on Feb 18 and results will be declared on March 3.

  • Sangma Criticises Government for Rejecting Visa to Paul Msiza
    The Meghalaya CM, Mukul Sangma, has condemned the government 's decision to deny visa to Dr. Paul Msiza, President of Baptist World Alliance (BWA). He was slated to come to the state in order to celebrate 150 years of Christianity. Paul was slated to visit the Garo Hills. Sangma has labelled the move as an agenda against the Christian communities. He stated that denying the visa to the global religious leader is highly condemnable. Sangma in his speech also lent support to the Garo Hills people.

  • Meghalaya Polls: Star Candidate List of Congress is Out
    Congress has declared its star candidates for the Meghalaya Election. Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi are the prominent names among the list of 40-star candidates. Out of the 40-star candidates, 20 are from within the state and the rest are from outside the state. The Election Committee of the party has approved the list and it has been sent to the EC (Election Commission), as reported by Congress MP and state working president Vincent H Pala. The Congress president, Rahul Gandhi, who earlier kicked off the campaigning in the state with a rock concert would again return to the state for further campaigning.

  • Rahul Gandhi to Visit Religious Places in Karnataka
    The Congress is in full swing for campaigning in the poll-bound Karnataka. Congress president, Rahul Gandhi, would allegedly appease different religious communities in the state. The Gandhi scion is scheduled to visit two Lingayat religious centres, a Hindu temple, and a Muslim dargah. The religious visits would constitute his first leg in the tour. The visits are reported to take place from February 10 to 13. G Parameshwara, the state Congress president, has announced the schedule for the Congress supremo. He added that the tour in no way can be labelled soft Hindutva. The party earlier drew flak from the opposition for the temple visits during the Gujarat polls.

  • BJP, JDS in Alliance for Karnataka Polls
    Ahead of the Karnataka Election, the Janata Dal (Secular) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) have declared that they have formed the coalition. According to the JD (S)’s Danish Ali and BSP leader Satish Chandra Misra, the alliance would continue in General Election 2019 as well.
    The tenure for the Karnataka Assembly would expire in May 2018. The currently ruling government in the state is Congress. The Assembly polls in the state are due in April-May and the final date for the polls is yet to be announced by the Election Commission (EC).
