SC to Pass Order on WB EC on 6 AugustThe Supreme Court has questioned the flip-flop move of West Bengal State Election Commission. The Commission first announced the extending of the deadline of nomination filing for the panchayat polls and then the very next day took its decision back. The court has decided to pass an order on the issue on 6 August. On the night of 9 April, the state poll panel had taken note of a number of complaints regarding the intending candidates being obstructed from submitting their nomination papers and were told about the extension of the deadline to 3 PM next day. Karnataka Budget Waives off Rs 34,000 Crore Farm LoansHD Kumaraswamy, the Karnataka's Chief Minister, presented his first budget yesterday. The main highlight of it was the waiver of Rs 34,000 crore farm loans - the waiver, however, is applicable to a loan of up to Rs 2 lakh. The CM will also recognize the farmers' efforts who cleared their dues timely; the CM would credit Rs 25,000 or the loan amount (whichever is less), back to their accounts.Additionally, under the Anna Bhagya scheme, 1 kg of sugar, 1/2 kg toor dal at a subsidized rate, 5 kg of rice free of cost will be given to a below poverty line (BPL) card holder.2018-07-06 11:09:49 AM
