  • Goa Likely To Go With BJP, Disappoint AAP: India Today-Axis Survey
    On the basis of a survey conducted in Goa at the end of December 2016, the India Today-Axis opinion poll has predicted that the BJP is going to get 20 to 24 seats in the 40-member state legislative assembly while the Congress may bag 13 to 15 seats. The Aam Aadmi Party, which has been running a long and hectic campaign in the coastal state, may only register its presence by winning 2-4 seats. Other regional parties such as the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) might win 1-4 seats.

  • BJP Set to Dethrone Congress in Uttarakhand, Says India Today-Axis Survey
    The India Today-Axis opinion poll has predicted that the Congress will find it difficult to retain power in the hill state of Uttarakhand. The opinion poll has given BJP 41 to 46 seats in the 70-seat Uttarakhand legislative assembly. The Congress is predicted to win 18 to 23 seats while others could get 2-6 seats. The survey also showed that the BJP is way ahead of Congress and other parties in terms of vote share. While the BJP is expected to get 45 per cent of vote share, Congress may come a distant second with 33 per cent. Prime Minister Narendra Modi's demonetisation move is not going to affect the BJP's poll prospects as a majority of respondents (79 per cent) view the note ban as good.

  • Congress To Make Sensational Comeback in Punjab Assembly Polls 2017: India Today-Axis Survey
    According to an opinion poll conducted by India Today in association with Axis in December 2016, the Congress may finally make a comeback in Punjab in the coming assembly elections in the state which are scheduled to be held exactly a month from now. The opinion poll has projected the Sonia Gandhi-led Congress to get 56 to 62 seats in the 117-member Punjab Assembly. The Akali Dal-BJP combine has been in power in Punjab for two consecutive terms and they are facing a strong anti-incumbency. They may be reduced to just 18 to 22 seats. The other contesting party BSP, which commands sizeable Dalit votes in the state, may bag one to four seats.

  • Congress Ropes In Poll Strategist Prashant Kishor For Uttarakhand Assembly Polls 2017
    The Congress has roped in poll strategist Prashant Kishor for the upcoming Uttarakhand Assembly election. This is the third poll-bound state where Kishor will work for the party after Uttar Pradesh and Punjab. Congress general secretary and in-charge of party affairs in Uttarakhand Ambika Soni said that Kishor will help strategise the party's campaign in the hill state where Assembly polls are slated to be held on February 15. Soni, who is also the campaign committee chairman of Punjab Congress, said that party workers who had faced 'oppression' under the Akali rule during the last 10 years should not be ignored at the time of allotting poll tickets. She added that veteran party workers had the first right on poll tickets over "outsiders" coming into the Congress-fold ahead of the polls.

Possibilities of forging an alliance brightened after Akhilesh gained the upper hand in the Yadav family feud which had pitted him against his father and party veteran Mulayam Singh. Akhilesh is expected to meet Rahul on January 9. The meeting has gained urgency especially after announcement of the seven-phase polls in the state.
