  • Modi Government Likely to Roll Out Food Security Act Soon
    If all goes well, the Modi government is likely to announce the National Food Security Act (NFSA) with an outlay at Rs 130,000 crore very soon. Interestingly, the outlay is double the number earmarked in the last Budget. The total allocation towards food subsidy in the last Budget was Rs. 124,419 crore. After the announcement of the rollout, the full-fledged implementation will reportedly begin from 1 April.

    With an eye on Uttar Pradesh 2017 elections, Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar has floated the idea of 'mahagathbandhan' in the state. He has been proactively reaching out to smaller outfits to forge a political alliance to counter BJP in the assembly elections. The ruling Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party have rejected the idea. However, JD(U) expects to win over Congress and other “secular” parties to create a bigger force. Nitish held a lunch meeting with Rashtriya Lok Dal chief Ajit Singh and his son Jayant Chaudhary on Wednesday on this regard.
