Nagaland Assembly

Nagaland Legislative Assembly

Nagaland Legislative Assembly was established in the year 1964. The state has a unicameral legislature and only one house, the Legislative Assembly, which consists of 60 members. Each term lasts for 5 years, except if a sitting MLA can no longer hold the position, due to disqualification, death, or other unavoidable circumstances. The by-polls are then conducted to elect new members. Kohima is the location of the Current Assembly.

There have been thirteen Assembly polls until now for electing the members of the House. Last elections were held on 27 February 2018. In the Assembly polls in 2018, NPF won 27 seats, while BJP managed 12 seats. NDPP won 16 seats. BJP has formed alliance with NDPP and now is part of the ruling government. Neiphiu Rio (NDPP leader) is the current CM of the state.
