About Kopargaon Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) Constituency

A city in the Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra, the assembly constituency of Kopargaon belongs to Shirdi parliamentary constituency. The seat is occupied by SHS (Shiv Sena) from 2004. Kale Ashokrao Shankarrao of SHS won the 2009 assembly elections for the second consecutive time and is the present MLA. He defeated Bipindada Shankarrao Kolhe of NCP (Nationalist Congress Party). Shankarrao bagged 84680 votes as against Kolhe's 77989 votes. Kopargaon had a population of 250,000. as per 2011 India census. The city located on the banks of river Godavari is regarded as a holy place.
