About Basohli Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) Constituency

Basohli is a town in Kathua district of Jammu & Kashmir. The town is situated on the bank of Ravi river. The place is famous for its paintings called Basohli paintings. At the 2001 India census, it had a population of 5865. The assembly constituency of Basohli falls under Udhampur parliamentary constituency. The seat is the INC bastion. But Jagdish Raj Sapolia of BJP won the 2008 assembly elections and is the current MLA. He defeated Davinder Singh of JKNC. Sapolia secured 16651 votes as against Singh's 13770 votes.
