List of Reserved Constituencies in Karnataka

Reserved constituency is a system devised by the Indian Constitution to provide special provision of separate constituencies for weaker and marginalised sections of the Indian society. These constituencies allow the marginalised sections of the society to have an elected representative of their community in the legislative assembly. In India, reserved constituencies are given to the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities in the country for equal representation. Reserved constituencies provide these backward communities with a platform to raise the issues concerning the well-being of their community. Every state in India, including Karnataka, has reserved constituencies both for State Assembly elections and Lok Sabha elections. Karnataka has 34 and 15 seats reserved for SC and ST communities for state assembly elections respectively. Some of the major political leaders of Karnataka like Priyank M Kharge, H K Kumararaswamy, B Sriramulu, and B M Nagaraj hail from reserved constituencies. These MLAs have worked for the betterment of their respective communities and are considered amongst who’s who of Karnataka politics.
