Assembly elections were conducted in the frontier state of Assam in two phases on 4 and 11 April. Assam has 126 Assembly constituencies. All exit polls say that the BJP is going to secure a major victory in this state. The Congress, which has been in power in the state for three consecutive terms, is set to face defeat. The exit polls are divided, though, on how many seats BJP will win and whether it will be able to cross the majority mark or not.

Assam Assembly elections: Opinion poll indicates close fight between Congress and BJP by CVoter-India TV

An opinion poll, which was conducted by CVoter-India TV in Assam, has suggested that the BJP and the Congress will give each other a tough fight in the upcoming elections. According to the opinion poll, the BJP will emerge as the single-largest party with 55 seats. However, it will still be nine short of the majority in the 126-member assembly. The Congress is likely to win 53 seats. In that case, the ruling party will be looking to form an alliance with the AIUDF, which is predicted to win 12 seats, to form the government in the state.

The frontier state of Assam goes to elections on 4 and 11 April this year. Fresh opinion polls indicate that there will be a hung assembly. The survey says that Congress would win 40 seats. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which appeared all set to secure majority in the state, may not be able to score any more than Congress. The opinion poll says that the BJP will get 32 to 35 seats. BJP’s alliance partner Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) would get 8-10 seats. The third coalition partner, Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), would win 8 to 9 seats.

Assam Opinion Poll by C-Voter

Congress is going to suffer a setback in 2016 assembly elections, as per the opinion poll conducted by C-voter. The BJP-led alliance is projected to win 57 seats in the 126-seat assembly and emerge as the largest front in Assam. Congress may be reduced to 44 seats. According to the survey, Badruddin Ajmal’s UDF is likely to win 19 seats.
