10-07-2014NARENDRA MODI - DAY 45 IN OFFICE

Here are the highlights for Day 45 of Modi government

  • The most awaited moment for the Modi government, of the Budget 2014, was finally materialised. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley today presented the new government's first Budget.
  • Did the Budget fulfill the expectations of the people? Let’s have a look at how much the government managed to achieve.
  • People expected relief in the income tax. The Finance Minister in this respect lived upto the expectations. The tax exemption limit was raised by Rs. 50,000.
  • The BJP promised to rehabilitate Kashmiri migrants and today's Budget showed that Modi's words and actions are in sync. Jaitley announced the programme for the migrants and allotted Rs. 500 crore for it.
  • At the same time there were decisions which were criticised.
  • In the Budget 2014, Jaitley allotted Rs 200 crore for the statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel which is more as compared to the amount allotted for the safety of women which is Rs. 150 crore. This was one of the most condemned decisions by the government. It has been regarded as a move to impress Modi.
  • What came as a surprise to many in the Budget 2014 was that the government which talked about economic growth and inflation made no concrete announcements regarding the issues.
  • The Budget seemed to lack the vision of the country's overall development. No doubt, Jaitley made many retail announcements such as five IITs, five IIMs and four AIIMs but he did not chart out the way for pro-poor policies. The Finance Minister did talk about the needs of the poor but the measures to address them were not announced.
  • West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee criticised the Budget saying that the new government has "become a government of the FDI, by the FDI and for the FDI".
  • The Budget 2014, in a way received mixed reactions. While some expectations were fulfilled some were not. Some praised it and some condemned it.
  • It seems as if the Congress party is back in action again. According to the sources, the Congress is planning to attack through media, every decision of the Modi government.
  • Putting an end to all speculations, it was today declared that Narendra Modi will not meet German Chancellor Angela Merkel. It was earlier reported that on his way to Brazil, Modi would meet her in Germany.
  • Manmohan Singh formed the Cabinet Committee on Investments (CCI) for the implementation of delayed projects. The CCI will now be revamped by the new NDA government.
  • Having looked at what the new government achieved today, let’s have a look at what happened in Rajya Sabha. A major havoc was created in Rajya Sabha when CPI-M member claimed that the documents related to the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi were destroyed by the Home Ministry. He claimed that it was done on Modi's directions.
